The Obligatory Birthday Blog
As I begin my 29th trip around the Sun, I am still early in my journey of ritualizing the impactful markers in my existence. Along with my solar return tattoo, which this year the economy did not seem suitable to allow me to get (don’t worry I’ll make up for it at the end of the Gregorian year), I am growing roots around another ritual of reading a letter to my future self; which at this moment is my present self, that my past self wanted me to have. Anywho, here is the letter from my past self for myself today.
Dear FutureMe,
By the time you read this who knows where you will be. Wherever it is, it will be magical. I have waited many moons for you to believe in your power and here you have found yourself, shortly after the eve of your 28th in all the glory your ancestors imagined.
The work you do is important. You are important. To yourself and your child if not to anyone else. I envision that we will be preparing to make the trek to Brooklyn to live and sustain ourselves as art & cultural worker. I envision that New York will bring out the strongest qualities of your soul and will have much room for you to expand in your gifts. I envision that you may be dating someone however, if you are not you are perfectly happy with yourself. I envision that you will cultivate experiences that impact how others engage with themselves and their external ecosystem. I envision that you will be in a cute studio in Bedstuy, paying no more than $1200 a month all-inclusive and somehow you make it work and are abundant in this. I envision your daughter will make many trips to spend time with you and you will talk every day. I envision you will have a few more clients whom you manage and perhaps you may be considering seeking an assistant. I envision your connection with [redacted], as well as other aligned organizations, will strengthen and be what sustains you in your transition to New York. I envision that you will be deeper in the research phase of your project with supported funding from [insert grant here]. I envision all these things will leave so much room for magic and lessons and Spirit and ancestors will ordain all that is for you. You are entering a beautiful and very bright period of your life that is not devoid of work but is more brilliant and intuitive in how you operate. I love this for you. And cannot wait to see the magic you create.
They say if you want to make God laugh, tell them your plans; obviously, my 28th year was a joke that everyone knew the punchline to but me. Though it was hard, I have learned more deeply the importance of love and laughter and watering that which waters you. Though things in my letter didn’t happen at the accelerated timeline I desired them to happen, that does not mean they will not happen. I have moved closer to what my young[er] self wanted. I know that everything is happening in divine timing.
